Common questions

What does the free version include?

One home and up to 50 items, with photos, receipts, warranty and return reminders, search and a spreadsheet (CSV) export. Everything you add stays yours to view, edit and export, even if a subscription ends. Roomjot Premium adds the insurance report (a PDF with photos and receipts), unlimited items, more than one home, and importing items from a CSV file. It’s a one-time Lifetime purchase, or an annual or weekly subscription.

How do I add an item?

Tap Add Item (the plus button) above the item list. Only the name is needed. Pick a room and a category, set Quantity if you have more than one of the same thing (the price is what you paid for all of them), tap Take Photo or Choose Photos to add up to 12 photos, and fill in whatever else you know: brand, model and serial numbers, purchase date, price and shop. Tap Save. If you add an item while a room or category is selected, it’s filled in for you.

How do I add a receipt?

In an item’s form, under Receipt, tap Scan Receipt to use the camera, Choose Photo to pick a photo of it, or Choose File to pick a PDF or image from Files. Roomjot reads the receipt on your device and fills in the shop, purchase date and price if you haven’t already, with a note saying what it filled in. Check them before you tap Save. An item keeps one receipt: use Replace Receipt or Remove Receipt to change it. To see it later, open the item and tap the receipt, or tap Share Receipt to send it.

To start from a receipt, tap Add from Receipt (the scan button) above the item list. The camera opens straight away, then the new item’s form opens filled in from the receipt, ready for you to type the item’s name.

How do I scan a serial number or model number?

In an item’s form, tap the scan button at the end of the Serial Number or Model Number row. Point the camera at the product’s label, often on the back or underneath, or inside the door of a washing machine. Roomjot outlines the number that looks most likely, usually the one after S/N or Model, and shows a Use button for it. Tap Use, or tap any other highlighted text or barcode to use that instead. Roomjot reads the label on your device and looks nothing up online. Retail barcodes (EAN and UPC) name the product rather than your unit, so Roomjot doesn’t suggest them as a serial number. The scan button appears on iPhone and iPad models that support live text scanning. If camera access is off, Roomjot says so; tap Open Settings to turn it on.

How do warranty and return reminders work?

In an item’s form, under Warranty and Returns, pick how long the warranty lasts (6 months to 5 years) and how long the shop takes returns (14 to 90 days), or choose Custom Date for either. Lengths count from the purchase date, or from today if there isn’t one, and the end date is shown so you can check it. Roomjot sends a notification at 9:00 a week before each date and on the day. If notifications are off for Roomjot, the form says so; tap Open Settings to turn them on. Expiring Soon in the sidebar lists items whose warranty ends or return window closes in the next 30 days under Coming Up, and those that passed in the last week under Recently Passed. Items in other lists show a clock badge while they’re expiring soon, and the Filter menu can narrow the list by warranty: Active, Expiring Soon, Expired or No Warranty.

How do I turn reminders off?

For one item, set Warranty and Return By to None and tap Save; its notifications are cancelled. For every item, open iOS Settings > Notifications > Roomjot and turn off Allow Notifications. Deleting an item cancels its reminders too.

How do I change the rooms or categories?

In the sidebar, tap Edit Rooms or Edit Categories. Tap one to rename it or change its symbol, tap Add Room or Add Category to make a new one, and tap Edit to drag them into a new order. Swipe left to delete one. Its items are kept: an item from a deleted room appears under No Room. Rooms belong to one home, and categories are shared by every home.

Can I keep more than one home?

Yes, with Premium. Tap the home’s name at the top of the sidebar and choose Add Home. A new home starts with the usual rooms. Use the same menu to switch homes, or choose Edit Homes to rename or delete one.

How do I find something?

Type in the search field on the item list. Roomjot looks through the name, brand, model and serial numbers, shop, notes, room and category. Model and serial numbers match without their spaces and dashes. Use the Filter menu to narrow the list to a room, a category or a warranty status.

How do I make an insurance report?

With Premium, open Settings and tap Insurance Report (PDF), or tap the home’s name at the top of the sidebar and choose Insurance Report (PDF). Pick the home, choose whether to Include Photos and Include Receipts (both are on to start with), and tap Make PDF. Roomjot shows its progress, which can take a little while for a few hundred items, then opens the share sheet so you can save, print or send the PDF.

The report starts with the home’s name, the date it was made, the number of items and the total value. Totals in different currencies are listed separately, never added together. Then it lists each room in order, with a subtotal, followed by items with no room. Each item shows its first photo, name, quantity when there’s more than one, category, brand, model and serial numbers, purchase date, price, shop and warranty end date. Receipts follow at the end, one per page, numbered so each item can say which receipt is its own.

The report is a record of your belongings to support an insurance claim. It isn’t a form from any insurer, so check your policy for what your insurer needs.

How do I import items from another app or a spreadsheet?

With Premium, export your items from the other app or spreadsheet as a CSV file and save it in Files. In Roomjot, open Settings and tap Import Items (CSV), then choose the file. Before anything changes, Roomjot shows how many items it will add, which columns it read, the rooms and categories it will create, and any rows it can’t read with the reason, such as a missing name or a date it doesn’t recognise. Tap Import to add the items to the home you’re viewing, or Cancel to leave everything as it was. If the import can’t be saved, nothing is added.

Rooms and categories are matched by name, ignoring capital letters, and new ones are created. Items already in the home are skipped: those with the same name and serial number, or, without a serial number, the same name, purchase date and price. So importing the same file twice doesn’t add anything the second time. A file exported from Roomjot imports back exactly; its Home column is left out, because items go into the home you’re viewing.

Roomjot reads these columns, whatever their capitals:

Dates can be written as 2025-03-14, 14/03/2025, 03/14/2025 or 14 March 2025. When a date like 03/04/2025 could be either, Roomjot reads it the way your region writes dates. Files separated by commas, semicolons or tabs all work.

How do I get my inventory out of Roomjot?

Open Settings and tap Export Items (CSV), then choose where to send the file. It lists every item in every home, with its quantity and warranty end and return-by dates, and opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets. Photos and receipts aren’t included; the insurance report has those.

I bought Premium. How do I get it on another device or after reinstalling?

Open Settings in Roomjot and tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with.

How do I cancel a subscription or ask for a refund?

Apple manages both. Cancel in your device’s Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t see or change App Store payments.
